NTPC (Non-Technical Popular Categories) posts are divided into 2 categories:
Graduate posts: Traffic Assistant, Goods Guard, Senior Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Account Assistant cum Typist, Senior Time Keeper, Commercial Apprentice, and Station Master
Postgraduate posts: junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, Junior Time Keeper, Trains Clerk, Commercial cum Ticket Clerk.

Syllabus-Current Events of National and International Importance, Games and Sports, Art and Culture of India, Indian Literature, Monuments and Places of India, General Science and Life Science (up to 10th CBSE), History of India and Freedom Struggle, Physical, Social and Economic Geography of India and World, Indian Polity and Governance- constitution and political system, General Scientific and Technological Developments including Space and Nuclear Program of India, UN and Other important World Organizations, Environmental Issues Concerning India and World at Large, Basics of Computers and Computer Applications, Common Abbreviations, Transport Systems in India, Indian Economy, Famous Personalities of India and World, Flagship Government Programs, Flora and Fauna of India, Important Government and Public Sector Organizations of India, etc.
Preparation tips:
- Read a lot: Read daily newspapers, Magazines, Journals, and GK books daily. For Daily Current Affairs click.
- Make notes: Make notes whatever you study on different platforms. Revision is the key to feed everything in your mind.
- General Intelligence and Reasoning
Syllabus- Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation, and Sufficiency, Conclusions and Decision Making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions, etc.
Preparation Tips:
- Work on your logical skills: It is mandatory to sharpen your logical thinking skills to attempt this section.
- Clear your concepts: The questions of this section require clear concepts. If your basic concepts are not clear, you cannot make through it.
- Don’t Assume: You don’t have to make any unnecessary assumptions. Just stick to whatever is given in questions.
Syllabus- Number System, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportions, Percentage, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Elementary Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, etc.
Preparation tips:
- Make your basics strong: The basic formulas and theorems should be very clear in your mind. Attempting the question requires your strong basic knowledge.
- Know Short-cuts: These questions require long calculations and there are many chances to get them wrong. Better you should learn short tricks to make your question easy and require less time.
- Avoid risks: Don't use risky methods that you are not sure about. It can end up with the deduction of Marks.
