NOTE:
(I) Employees of the given companies can be categorised only in three
types: Science graduates. Commerce graduates and Arts graduates.
(II) A few values are missing in the table (indicated by --). A candidate
is expected to calculate the missing value, if it is required to answer the
given question, on the basis of the given data and information.
The average number of Arts graduate employees and commerce graduate employees in Company Q was 312. What was the total number of employees in Company Q?
920
960
1120
1040
1080
Solution
The percentage of Arts graduate employees in Company Q $ = (100 – 35 50)\% = 15\%$
Now, the percentage of Arts graduate employees and Commerce graduate employees $= 50 + 15 = 65\%$
Average of Commerce and Arts graduate employees = 312
$\therefore$ The total number of employees in Commerce and Arts $= 2 \times 312$
Let the total employees in Company Q be x.
Then, 65% of $x = 2 \times 312$
$\therefore~~x = \dfrac {2 \times 312 \times 100}{65} = 960$
