How to become a bank clerk in India?
A normal aspirant can resort to below three options to work as a bank clerk:
- Appear for a National level clerical examination such as IBPS or SBI
- Promotion from a sub staff cadre through departmental promotions
Job-Profile of a Bank Clerk

- Opening ac on behalf of customers,
- Handling cash from the customers on a daily basis
- They are entitled to the job of deposits and withdrawals by the customers
- Verify cheques, Demand draft and other promissory notes deposited by the customers

Promotion Policy of a Bank clerk
A bank clerk gets a lot of opportunities once he joins a bank which I will discuss in the space below:
JAIIB and CAIIB-The students after completing 6 months of probation get an opportunity to appear for the JAIIB and CAIIB examination. The students are given a time frame of 3 years to pass these examinations. On passing these examinations, the students get points for promotion exams while they also get increment in their salary.
On clearing JAIIB the students get one increment of value Rs 655 each in the basic pay. While passing the CAIIB exam the candidate gets 2 increments worth Rs 655. Once these exams are cleared a clerk can sit for the departmental exams for the promotion on Officer scale.
