Direction (Set of 5 questions): Study the following information to answer the given questions:
In a certain code,
‘Math is not hard’ is written as ‘l10W g3V k15K f15G’
‘Tom screamed in horror’ is written as ‘g3Q q63G r10P f35U’
‘The baby is crying’ is written as ‘g3V z15B r10H a35G’
‘Sandeep likes horror movies’ is written as ‘f35U j26V q50S k35V’
As per the above coding system, what is the code for ‘Problem’?
Solution
In the last coded sentence:
There are two codes with 35. They must represent 6-lettered words (‘horror’ and ‘movies’).
Code with 26 must represent ‘likes’ with 5 letters and code with 50 must represent ‘Sandeep’ with 7 letters.
We notice that
$35 = 6{^2} - 1$
$26 = 5{^2} + 1$
$50 = 7{^2} + 1$
So the numbers in the code are one more than the square of the number of digits if the number of digits is odd. And the numbers in the code are one less than the square of the number of digits if the number of digits is even.
Now we notice that the first letter of the code is simply -2 of the first letter of the word.
And the last letter (in caps) of the code is +3 of the last letter of the word.
So, ‘horror’ becomes a combination of ‘$n{^2}-1 \Rightarrow 6{^2}-1 = 35$’ and ‘R+3 = U’, 'h-2= f' and coded as ‘f35U’
Therefore,
Problem coded as
‘Problem’ $= 7{^2} + 1 = 50$, m+3 = P, p-2 = n
combined to give ‘n50P’
